The Miami Dolphins had a historic performance in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos. They defeated their visitors 70-20, coming close to breaking the single-game record for points in a game, which was 72.
The Broncos had no answers for the explosive Dolphins offense, who received contributions from everyone on the roster. What made that performance even more spectacular was that it came without star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle being in the lineup.
Waddle missed Week 3 because of a head injury he suffered during their Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots. He was unable to get cleared from the league’s concussion protocol in time to suit up against the Broncos.
Alas, it may not be too much longer until he is back on the field with his teammates. Following Sunday’s victory, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel offered a very encouraging update on the status of Waddle.
While he remains in the league’s concussion protocol, the Dolphins are optimistic about how he is feeling and progressing. That gives the impression that they believe Waddle will be back on the field in Week 4. Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network shared the update on X, formerly known as Twitter.
That is great news for the Dolphins as they are heading into a huge matchup against the Buffalo Bills next week. This will be their chance to cement their status as the top dog in the AFC East, having a chance to build a two-game lead in the division as the calendar flips over to October.
Waddle had gotten off to another strong start before the concussion. He had caught eight passes for 164 yards without a touchdown through two games, upping his statistics once again. It is still very early on, but the yards per reception and yards per game would both be career highs.
