Eagles Get Major Concerning Injury Update Before Week 5

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are once again one of the best teams in the NFL. They are one of two undefeated teams remaining in the NFL, along with the San Francisco 49ers, as we head into Week 5 of the season.

Both teams are 4-0 and are on a collision course for each other later in Week 13 and potentially for another playoff matchup. But, before that comes around, there is plenty of work left for the Eagles to do, such as get past their Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams have looked more competitive thus far this season as the inexperience on the roster hasn’t cost them as much as many thought it would. The Eagles are going to face a stiffer challenge than they likely thought coming into the season.

Things could be tougher as well based on the injury report that has been released. Shared by Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was a surprise addition to the injury report this week. Per Garafolo, Cox didn’t practice on Wednesday because of a back injury.

This is the second time this season that Cox has popped up on the injury report. In Week 1, he was listed on there because of an injury to his ribs. That time around, he didn’t miss any time and was on the field against the New England Patriots.

It is too soon to tell if he will be able to get out there with his teammates this weekend, as unexpected additions to the injury report are always concerning. Especially when it is a 32-going-on 33-year-old in his 12th season in the NFL.

Cox remains a main cog in the Eagles’ defensive line rotation, starting all four games and playing 70 percent of the defensive snaps. He is currently fifth on the team in total defensive snaps played with 184.

If Cox is forced to miss the game, the Eagles could use Milton Williams for a few more snaps. Williams is currently third, behind Cox and Jalen Carter, for pass-rushing snaps amongst defensive interior players. Fourth on that list is 2022 first-round pick Jordan Davis, who could see more playing time as well should Cox be sidelined.
