Eagles Urged To Re-Consider Blockbuster Jonathan Taylor Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t play their best game against the New England Patriots in Week 1 of the NFL season. But, they left Gilette Stadium with the most important thing: a victory and a 1-0 record.

One of the things that the Eagles need to take a look at improving in the coming weeks is their running game. Philadelphia averaged only 3.9 yards per carry, a number that must improve to find success consistently.

Some credit should be given to the Patriots, who fell down 16-0 early but kept grinding to keep the game competitive. They very easily could have rolled over and allowed the Eagles to steamroll them on the ground to ice the game away.

Philadelphia surprised some people when it was Kenneth Gainwell being used as their featured back, receiving 14 out of the team’s 16 carries from running backs. He worked well ahead of D’Andre Swift and Boston Scott, while free agent signing Rashaad Penny was a healthy scratch.

Swift and Penny are expected to help fill the void left by Miles Sanders departing in free agency. But, there are some people who believe the Eagles need to make a bigger splash in the backfield. One of those people is Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94.1 WIP Radio in Philadelphia, who has urged the team to acquire Jonathan Taylor from the Indianapolis Colts.

“If the #Eagles are actually going to go with a clear RB1 and not a committee than they need to revisit the Jonathan Taylor situation in Indianapolis once he comes off the PUP,” writes Shorr-Parks.

It would certainly make sense if the Eagles have changed their plans on having a committee and want to lean on a single leadback to make a move for Taylor. When healthy, he is one of the best running backs in the NFL.

Philadelphia also hasn’t been shy about looking into making a splash. Despite a Pro Bowl season in 2022 from Sanders, the team was connected to Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara. This offseason, they have already been connected to Taylor and were also mentioned as a possible Dalvin Cook suitor.
