The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in dire need of a quarterback upgrade, a fact highlighted by Mike Tomlin’s reluctance to turn back to Kenny Pickett when the season hung in the balance, despite Pickett being fully fit.

With Mason Rudolph set to hit free agency and the departure of Mitch Trubisky already confirmed, the Steelers are actively seeking to bolster their quarterback depth.

Currently, the Steelers are heavily favored to secure Bears quarterback Justin Fields via trade, a move that promises to significantly enhance their quarterback situation. Former NFL player Louis Riddick expressed his enthusiasm for this potential acquisition, envisioning Fields thriving under the guidance of offensive coach Arthur Smith.

During an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, Riddick drew parallels between Fields and Ryan Tannehill, highlighting Tannehill’s remarkable improvement within Smith’s offensive scheme and his effectiveness in the red zone. Riddick believes that the Steelers’ offensive setup and personnel are ideally suited to Fields’ skill set, particularly emphasizing the potential for a lethal play-action game and a strong running attack to complement Fields’ strengths.

“It is perfect.  Absolutely perfect. With George Pickens, Diontae Johnson, and Pat Freiermuth.”

While Riddick acknowledges Kenny Pickett’s talent, he contends that the Steelers’ offensive system is better aligned with Fields’ style of play. He envisions a scenario where Fields alternates between under-center and shotgun formations, leveraging his passing prowess and mobility to excel in various offensive situations.

However, the Steelers may face competition in their pursuit of Justin Fields, as the Chicago Bears are still evaluating their quarterback situation. Nevertheless, the prospect of Fields donning the black and gold jersey seems like a natural fit, offering both the Steelers and Fields himself a promising opportunity for success.
