Potential Impact of Todd Gurley
The best seasons of Matt Ryan’s career have taken place when he’s thrived in play-action situations. If Todd Gurley can make a strong impact during his first season with the Atlanta Falcons, opposing teams will have to respect him far more than they did Devonta Freeman last season.
While Gurley was released by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this offseason, he could very well still be capable of making a legitimate impact. When healthy, he’s shown to be a dynamic dual-threat back as a running-threat and as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.
The Rams involved Gurley far less frequently in their offense last season than they did during his two-year MVP caliber stretch. For reference, received just 254 touchdowns last season compared to 343 touches in 2017 and 315 touches in 2018.
If Gurley is featured more with the Falcons than he was in 2019, it will be a matter of whether or not he can physically hold up. It could pay off in a major way for Atlanta if that works out, which would make things much easier for Calvin Ridley.
