Former NFL QB Urges Russell Wilson To Sign With Steelers

Russell Wilson will likely be released by the Denver Broncos in the coming weeks, and a former NFL quarterback thinks the Pittsburgh Steelers should be Wilson’s most desired landing spot.

During a recent episode of The Pick Six Podcast, Brady Quinn urged Wilson to angle for the Steelers’ starting quarterback job if and when he is released.

“If I’m Russell Wilson, I’m like dude put me on that team,” Quinn said. “They’ve got weapons on the outside, the offensive line’s improved, they have a good defense. And I think you put him in there with Mike Tomlin – who’s been a winner his entire career as a head coach – it’s a winning formula for you if you’re looking to revamp your career.”

Quinn isn’t wrong.

Pittsburgh has a talented roster, but one of the only areas where the club is truly lacking is under center. The Steelers are currently employing Kenny Pickett as the starter, but Pickett was very underwhelming in his first couple of seasons and has shown very little indication that he is going to significantly improve.

The Broncos are expected to cut Wilson after the team benched him for the final two regular-season games of 2023 as a result of the signal-caller declining to defer his $37 million injury guarantee.

Wilson actually put forth a solid year this past season, throwing for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 66.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98.

The 35-year-old spent the first decade of his career with the Seattle Seahawks before being dealt to Denver in a blockbuster trade in March 2022.

The marriage between Wilson and the Broncos has not exactly worked out, as Denver has gone just 13-21 since adding the nine-time Pro Bowler.

We’ll see if the Steelers do make a play for Russell Wilson in the coming weeks.
