The New York Jets are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The team’s Super Bowl aspirations went out the window when Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on the team’s fourth offensive play of the season.

Alas, not all hope was lost as the Jets did pick up the victory over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football, winning 22-16 in overtime. But, their chances of even making a run at a playoff spot are slipping away with Zach Wilson as the starting quarterback.

Wilson’s performance has been unacceptable through two games. This is a continuation of his poor level of play that he has displayed his first two seasons as a professional since being the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Something will need to change ASAP. Otherwise, things will be broken beyond repair. The person in the middle of this situation is head coach Robert Saleh, who continues to back Wilson despite his underwhelming performance.

Continuing to not only support but start Wilson as the team’s quarterback is something that is fracturing the Jets’ locker room. During a recent episode of Speak on FS1, former NFL wide receiver James Jones issued a dire warning to Saleh and the Jets’ coaching staff.

“You can’t try to save 1 and lose the other 52,” Jones said about Saleh and the Jets continuing to start Wilson despite evidence that he isn’t worthy of the job.

We have seen arguments and flare-ups on the sideline in recent games as players are getting frustrated. It was something that Aaron Rodgers commented on, saying his teammates need to grow up.

But, he wasn’t with the team last season when their hot start was derailed by inept quarterback play. The Jets are traveling the same path once again in the 2023 season if they continue trotting Wilson out as the starter as the rest of the team knows he doesn’t give them a chance to win games.

Another disastrous start in Week 3 against the New England Patriots should have been all the Jets’ brain trust needed to make a change. But, since no quarterback has been brought in, New York is wasting precious time. Approaching the quarter point of the season, their playoff hopes may already be down the drain.
