The AFC East is wide open heading into 2024, and the Miami Dolphins are becoming the trendy pick to win the division.

Count former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress among those who believes the Dolphins will do just that.

During a recent episode of The Carton Show on FS1, Burress said that regardless of whether or not Aaron Rodgers is healthy in 2024, Miami will beat out the New York Jets for the AFC East crown.

Due to the mass exodus of players that departed from the Buffalo Bills this offseason, the Dolphins and the Jets are viewed as the two top teams in the division.

Miami actually had a three-game lead in the AFC East during the second half of 2023, but the Bills rallied to end up winning the division title.

The Dolphins ultimately went 11-6 and fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Jets went 7-10 after Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles in Week 1.

Here is the thing with Miami: the team lost numerous key pieces on the defensive side of the ball this offseason. The Dolphins did try to patch some of those holes, but it remains to be seen if Miami’s defense is up to snuff next season.

Meanwhile, the Jets improved offensively, adding some pieces to their offensive line while also bringing in some more weapons for Rodgers. They also beefed up on the defensive side, swinging a trade for elite pass rusher Haason Reddick.

The Dolphins probably have to viewed as the favorites over the Jets by way of the fact that they won 11 games this past year, and we don’t know how Rodgers will look.

But you can understand why some are liking New York over Miami.
