The New York Jets selected Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis in the fifth round of the NFL Draft late last month, which could signal that the Jets are thinking about life after Aaron Rodgers.

Evidently, so is Travis.

Rodgers is 40 years old and is entering the final year of his contract with the Jets. He is also coming off of a torn Achilles that caused him to miss all but one offensive series last season.

For those reasons, it’s hard not to think about the future in New York, and Travis is already preparing for it.

“Yes sir. I do think about that a lot but right now I’m just focused where my feet are,” Travis said when asked whether or not he is already thinking about replacing Rodgers, via Paul Andrew Esden Jr. of The Score. “Just getting healthy, getting everybody around me better, [and] being a great teammate.”

Travis is recovering from a brutal injury himself.

The 24-year-old suffered a gruesome broken leg back in November, ending Florida State’s bid at participating in the College Football Playoff.

He was enjoying a tremendous season prior to the injury, as he had thrown for 2,756 yards, 20 touchdowns and just two interceptions while completing 63.9 percent of his passes. He also punched in seven rushing scores, finishing fifth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Travis began his collegiate career at Louisville back in 2018, but transferred to Florida State after just one year. He became the Seminoles’ full-time starting quarterback in 2021 and broke out in 2022. That season, he totaled 3,214 yards, 24 touchdowns and five picks, completing 64 percent of his throws. In addition, he rushed for 417 yards and seven scores.

The Jets may very well view Travis as Rodgers’ eventual successor. We already know Travis does. We will probably get a decent look at him in preseason.

One thing is for sure: Jordan Travis will certainly learn a lot from Aaron Rodgers in 2024.
