The New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick decided to part ways this season. While some people were wondering whether or not he would retire, his intentions became clear very quickly; Bill Belichick was going to continue his coaching career.

Several franchises were linked to him, but the Atlanta Falcons have seemingly emerged as the likeliest landing spot. Bill Belichick is set for a second interview after meeting with owner Arthur Blank in a one-on-one interview. Along with Blank, CEO Rich McKay and general manager Terry Fontenot will be at the meeting, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

At this point, it would be a mild upset if Bill Belichick wasn’t the next head coach of the Falcons. This is a job that has everything a head coach wants, as the pieces are in place for things to turn around quickly in Atlanta.

NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Bill Belichick & Atlanta Falcons Updates

There are young, high-upside players on offense at the skill positions, led by tight end Kyle Pitts, wide receiver Drake London and running back Bijan Robinson. The offensive line is strong and if they can find a quarterback to bring everything together, the results will follow.

Defensively, there is a lot to like as well. That side of the ball is where Bill Belichick thrives and he would be inheriting a unit that was solid throughout the season. Ranking 18th in points allowed and 11th in yardage, this could easily be a top-10 defense with his touches.

Should Bill Belichick be tabbed as the next Falcons’ head coach, expect some familiar faces to join him on the sidelines. According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal, the goal is to have the band back together.

“The scuttlebutt among the league is that they think Bill’s going to get the band back together. With McDaniels, O’Brien, Joe Judge, Matt Patricia — all this stuff.”

NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Bill Belichick & Atlanta Falcons Updates

Those are all coaches who have worked under Bill Belichick during his tenure with the Patriots. All of them also left for other opportunities but were never able to get close to replicating the success they had in New England. Bill O’Brien had the most with the Houston Texans, but the other three were disastrous.

It would be quite a story for Bill Belichick to join the Falcons and try to help them get back to the Super Bowl. The last time they did was the infamous 28-3 game, which Atlanta blew to New England.
