Georgia Bulldogs DB Makes Shocking Decision On Transfer Portal

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Julian Humphrey, a key player expected to contend for a starting role in the 2024 season, has decided against entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Humphrey initially made headlines when he announced his intention to return to Georgia shortly after the Bulldogs’ dominant 63-3 victory over Florida State in the Orange Bowl. However, just a few days later, he surprised many by revealing on social media that he was planning to enter the transfer portal.

Now, Humphrey has had a change of heart.

Humphrey’s absence from the team during the latter part of the 2023 season was attributed to a shoulder injury sustained in a game against Ole Miss. Despite this setback, the redshirt freshman managed to appear in nine games for the Bulldogs that season.

Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 190 pounds, Humphrey showcased his potential during a breakout performance against the Missouri Tigers in 2023. Known for his exceptional speed, he appears well on track for a full recovery in time for the start of the 2024 season.

In fact, Humphrey was already seen practicing in a non-contact jersey leading up to the Orange Bowl, indicating his imminent return to the field.

In an interview with DawgsHQ, Julian Humphrey shared his motivation for returning to Georgia, emphasizing his team-first mentality. He stated, “I know that with a successful season at Georgia, I can make it to the NFL. The more I thought about it, why would I leave Georgia just for a slightly bigger paycheck?”

Recognized as one of Georgia’s top cover cornerbacks, Humphrey’s decision to stay is a significant boost for the team. In the 2023 season, he contributed 11 tackles and two pass deflections. Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Humphrey and Daylen Everette are currently projected (albeit it’s early) to be the starting cornerbacks for Georgia.
