Green Bay’s Secondary Isn’t Fixed, But It Is Improved
New general manager Brian Gutekunst knew exactly what he needed to do this offseason. After a poor showing in 2017 by the defensive secondary, the Packers went out and made some moves to beef up that weakness.
The additions included signing Tramon Williams in free agency, who has had a successful history with the Packers. Gutekunst also went into the 2018 NFL Draft and brought in both Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson.
While the secondary still isn’t completely fixed, they were certainly improved. Mitchell Trubisky made easy work of the Green Bay defense in the first half, but the secondary stepped up in the second half. Late in the game, the unit made big plays to help seal the win after the 75-yard strike from Rodgers to Cobb.
As the young players continue to develop this season, the Packers’ secondary could go from being a weakness to a strength.
