The Green Bay Packers can’t seem to find a way to win close games, and quarterback Jordan Love is tired of it.
Following the Packers’ 23-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Love expressed his frustrations during his postgame press conference.
“It’s very frustrating,” said Love, via Eli Berkovits of CBS Sports. “We’ve been put in these situations a lot of times, and we have not found a way to win it.”
Love had yet another rough outing, going 21-for-40 with 289 yards, two touchdowns and a couple of interceptions, one of which sealed the deal for the Steelers.
On the season overall, Love has thrown for 2,009 yards, 14 touchdowns and 10 picks (which leads the NFL) while completing just 58.7 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 80.5.
As more time passes, it seems to be getting more and more difficult for Green Bay to justify getting behind Love as its quarterback of the future.
The 24-year-old actually got off to a good start this season, leading the Packers to a 2-1 record over their first three games and guiding the team to a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the New Orleans Saints. During that span, he threw seven touchdowns and just one interception.
However, since then, Love has struggled mightily, totaling seven touchdowns and nine picks as the Packers have gone just 1-5 over their last six contests.
Love, who played his collegiate football at Utah State, was selected by Green Bay with the 26th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He spent his first three seasons backing up Aaron Rodgers, but this past offseason, the Packers traded Rodgers to the New York Jets.
Growing pains were obviously expected for Jordan Love, who is in his first campaign as Green Bay’s full-time starter under center, but you have to wonder just how patient the Packers will be with the youngster if he continues to slide.
Green Bay is 3-6 and will take on the Los Angeles Chargers next Sunday.
