Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers suffered a disappointing loss against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, dropping their Week 2 matchup by a score of 25-24 to fall to 1-1 on the young season.
Of course, the most memorable moment came late in the fourth quarter, when the Packers’ quarterback made a very strange blunder on a fourth-down play call:
On Monday, Love gave an explanation for his miscue, stating that he gave the wrong “live word” to check to a quarterback sneak, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. As a result, the ball was not snapped.
It marred what was actually a rather impressive day for Love overall, with the 24-year-old going 14-for-25 with 151 yards and three touchdowns through the air.
Through the first two weeks of 2023, Love has thrown for 396 yards and an NFL-leading six touchdowns. While he is completing only 55.8 percent of his passes, he is yet to throw an interception and is pacing the league with a 118.7 passer rating.
Love is in his first year as the Packers’ full-time starting quarterback following Aaron Rodgers’ departure this past offseason. The Utah State product was originally selected by Green Bay with the 26th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. Due to Rodgers’ presence during his first three seasons, Love’s opportunities had been scarce.
There will certainly be a considerable learning curve for Jordan Love, so hopefully for the Packers, he won’t be making this type of mistake again.
Green Bay will take on the New Orleans Saints next Sunday.
