Packers Receive Two Major Injury Updates Before Week 3

The Green Bay Packers are preparing for a Week 3 showdown with the undefeated New Orleans Saints, so they will need all hands on deck for the tough matchup.

The status of both running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Christian Watson are up in the air for Sunday, as both players are battling hamstring injuries.

Per Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Watson was back at practice Friday after sitting out on Thursday, and Jones was still getting stretched out when media viewing ended.

Jones did not partake in individual drills on Wednesday, but he was back at practice on Thursday.

Jones suffered his injury during the Packers’ Week 1 win over the Chicago Bears after scoring a touchdown. He carried the ball nine times for 41 yards and a touchdown while logging two catches for 85 yards and a score. He was sidelined during Green Bay’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons last weekend. Meanwhile, Watson has yet to play this season.

The Packers were most recently seen blowing a double-digit lead in a deflating 25-24 defeat at the hands of the Falcons in Week 2.

Green Bay could certainly use having both players on the field against New Orleans, especially Jones. While the Saints have a great pass defense, they are not too adept at defending the run, so getting Jones back on the gridiron could end up paying dividends for a Packers offense that relies heavily on their 28-year-old halfback.

Last year, Jones racked up career highs in both rushing yards (1,121) and receptions (59). He entered the league as a fifth-round draft pick in 2017 and earned a Pro Bowl appearance in 2020.

Watson is now in his second season, having been drafted by Green Bay in the second round last year. He caught 41 passes for 611 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022.
