The Green Bay Packers could be back in the mix for Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor.
A source tells the NFL Analysis Network that the Packers are considering making another run at the Colts’ running back, as Taylor is scheduled to come off the PUP list in Week 5 and may be forcing the Colts’ hand.
Green Bay held trade discussions with Indianapolis last month, but due to the Colts’ high asking price, the Packers ultimately backed out.
However, with Taylor’s return growing closer, Indy may be forced to decrease its demands, especially considering that Taylor, who will be a free agent at season’s end, reportedly does not want to play for the Colts any longer.
The Packers could offer Indianapolis a package that includes fellow halfback AJ Dillon and a 2024 second-round draft pick. That way, the Colts bring in another running back for depth and land a Day 2 pick on the process.
Indianapolis had previously been asking for a first-round draft pick or a package that was equal in value to a first-rounder in return for Taylor. No teams were willing to meet those demands.
The Colts refused to give Taylor a contract extension going into the season, prompting the 24-year-old to ask for a trade. Indianapolis still seems to have no intention of paying him, so it may just want to take the best trade offer it receives now before losing Taylor for nothing in free agency.
Green Bay represents a terrific fit for Taylor. The Packers’ ground game is certainly in need of a boost and showed as much on Thursday night after the club’s running backs amassed a grand total of 29 yards in a 34-20 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Jonathan Taylor, who made the Pro Bowl in 2021, is recovering from an ankle injury he suffered late last season.
