Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud left his team’s loss to the New York Jets this past Sunday due to a concussion, and on Wednesday, head coach DeMeco Ryans provided an update on his signal-caller.

“C.J., he’s getting a little bit better,” Ryan said, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “We’ll see how the week continues to go, but he’s still in the concussion protocol.”

Stroud, who did not practice on Wednesday, also had a concussion scare during the Texans’ Week 13 win over the Denver Broncos, when he left to get checked but returned to the game after missing two plays.

The rookie struggled mightily against the Jets, going 10-for-23 with 91 yards before exiting.

On the season overall, he has thrown for 3,631 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 62.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98.7.

Stroud, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by Houston with the second overall pick of the NFL Draft back in spring.

To say that Stroud has taken the league by storm would be putting it lightly.

The 22-year-old has vaulted the Texans into playoff contention when no one expected Houston to contend for much of anything outside of a good draft pick.

Thanks much in part to Stroud, the Texans are 7-6 and are right in the mix for a playoff spot in the rugged AFC.

Prior to losing to the Jets, Houston had won four of its last five games, including wins over the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, if C.J. Stroud is unable to go when the Texans head on the road to battle the Tennessee Titans this Sunday, the club will have an uphill battle ahead of it.

After taking on the Titans, Houston will face the Cleveland Browns, Tennessee (again) and the Indianapolis Colts to close out the regular season.
