The twists and turns of the Jonathan Taylor saga with the Indianapolis Colts may finally be coming to an end. Or so we think.
Taylor, who has spent the first four weeks of the season on the PUP list as he recovers from an ankle injury he suffered late last season, is eligible to return to the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday when they take on the Tennessee Titans.
But here’s the thing: Taylor may not want to play for the Colts.
The star running back is embroiled in a contract dispute with the front office, as Indianapolis refused to give him a new deal going into the season. That prompted Taylor to ask for a trade, and the Colts granted him permission to seek one. That was back in August.
Here we are in October, and Taylor is still a member of the Colts, even if recent reports suggested that the 24-year-old did not want to suit up for Indy ever again.
However, it’s looking more and more like Taylor may be in uniform for Week 5.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Colts head coach Shane Steichen said there is a chance that Taylor will take the field next weekend and that the team wants to see him in practice this week. Indianapolis has already designated Taylor to return from the PUP list.
The Colts held trade discussions about Taylor with both the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers over the summer, but talks didn’t go very far as Indianapolis maintained a very high asking price.
Apparently, Indy was willing to decrease its demands recently, but nevertheless, Taylor has still not found a new home.
Of course, Taylor can choose to hold out, so it remains to be seen what he does this week.
The University of Wisconsin product is now in his fourth NFL season. Back in 2021, Jonathan Taylor led the league in both rushing yards (1,811) and rushing touchdowns (18).
Indianapolis is 2-2 on the season.
