The Cincinnati Bengals entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, and looking at their roster, who could blame them? The Bengals looked primed for yet another deep playoff run, and they are just two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance.
However, they look nothing like contenders early on.
Cincinnati has dropped its first two games of the season, scoring a grand total of 27 points in its two losses. Cincy’s offense ranks dead last in the NFL, and quarterback Joe Burrow is already banged up.
Because of that, many are wondering if the Bengals could potentially part ways with wide receiver Tee Higgins ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
Higgins is in the final year of his deal, and Cincinnati was unable to reach a long-term agreement with him prior to the season. He also apparently does not figure into the club’s future plans, so it would make sense for the Bengals to try and recoup some value for him before he walks in free agency.
Should Cincinnati place Higgins on the trade block, the Indianapolis Colts should be one of the first teams to place a call.
The Colts are in rebuilding mode and are rolling with rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson. The problem is that outside of Michael Pittman Jr., Richardson does not have many reliable targets, and Pittman himself is probably not a true No. 1 receiver.
Indianapolis could offer the Bengals a 2024 second-round draft pick as well as a fifth-rounder. That might be enough to pry Higgins away from Cincy.
Of course, the season is still very young, and it’s important to remember that the Bengals also started out 0-2 last year before ultimately winning 12 games and making it all the way to the AFC Championship Game.
However, if things continue heading south for Cincinnati, a Tee Higgins trade becomes a very realistic possibility.
