The NFL’s voluntary offseason workouts have commenced, sparking discussions among players across the league regarding their contract situations, particularly aiming for lucrative long-term deals before training camp kicks off. Among those players drawing attention is a standout from the New York Giants.
Among the notable names, star wide receivers like Justin Jefferson from the Minnesota Vikings and CeeDee Lamb from the Dallas Cowboys have opted out of workouts as they pursue contract extensions.
Adding to the mix, Giants’ wide receiver Darius Slayton is also in the hunt for a fresh contract.
As reported by Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Slayton finds himself in the final year of his current deal with the Giants and is eager to secure an extension with the team.
While Slayton may not boast the same level of acclaim as Jefferson or Lamb, he has shown consistency during his five seasons with the Giants. In the previous season, Slayton tallied 50 receptions for a career-best 770 receiving yards and four touchdowns, starting in 13 out of 17 games during the 2023 season.
The New York Giants’ decision regarding Slayton’s contract extension remains uncertain, particularly given the influx of talent at the wide receiver position through the 2024 NFL Draft.
It remains to be seen whether they opt to lock Slayton in for the long term or explore alternative strategies moving forward.
