For Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, Monday’s two-point last-second loss to the struggling Denver Broncos may have been something of a reckoning. They had already been underperforming this season, but this loss made it clear that their issues aren’t merely transitory ones that could be fixed by playing harder or smarter.
The franchise responded by firing offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey this week. Quarterback Josh Allen had originally wanted Dorsey to become the team’s offensive coordinator when Brian Daboll had departed following the 2021 season, and Dorsey has now been replaced with Joe Brady, a 34-year-old who has been the team’s quarterbacks coach since the start of last season.
Writer Tim Graham feels Buffalo gave Dorsey a pink slip in order to send Allen a message that he needs to man up and start playing better.
Many people have blamed Allen, who has been considered one of the NFL’s three best quarterbacks, for Buffalo’s lack of success this season. Never mind that he leads the league in touchdown passes and is fourth in passing yards — he also leads everyone with 11 interceptions, and on Monday, he threw the ball away twice and had a fumble.

But others have blamed the team’s coaching staff. Some feel head coach Sean McDermott is at fault for the team’s issues and feel a better head coach would make a world of difference.
Some have even suggested the Bills essentially hit the reset button and trade star wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who hinted he was upset with the team and possibly even Allen earlier this season.
With a 5-5 record, their chances of merely making the playoffs, let alone competing for the Super Bowl championship that has always eluded them, seem bleak. They have a difficult remaining schedule that includes road games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.
