Expectations are very high for the New York Jets in 2023 with Aaron Rodgers taking over as the team’s starting quarterback. He represents a massive upgrade under center for Gang Green after what they suffered through in 2022.
The quarterback position has been an empty void for the Jets for a long time, but things were especially ugly last season. New York got off to a hot 6-3 start, but ineffective quarterback play doomed the team.
They would lose seven out of their last eight games of the season as the offense bottomed out. The Jets didn’t score a touchdown in their final three games of the season, something that will assuredly not happen with Aaron Rodgers leading the way.
If the Jets go three quarters, let alone three entire games, without a touchdown people will be surprised. Not only is Aaron Rodgers a massive upgrade on Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco, his weapons have also been upgraded.
Most recently, the Jets signed running back Dalvin Cook after Aaron Rodgers redid his contract, giving back $35 million. He joins Breece Hall, Zonovan Knight, Michael Carter and rookie Israel Abanikanda in a loaded backfield.
For pass catchers, reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson leads the way. Familiar faces in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb were signed in free agency along with Mecole Hardman.
That is a lot of talented players around Aaron Rodgers, who should have no issues continuing to move up in the NFL’s record books in 2023. If he can throw for more than 2,305 yards this season, he will surpass Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino for eighth place on the all-time list.
If Aaron Rodgers can turn back the clock and have a vintage, MVP-level performance like some people are predicting, he could go as high as sixth on the list. He is 4,385 yards behind Philip Rivers, who currently occupies that spot, and 3,737 yards behind Matt Ryan, who is seventh.
Yardage records aren’t the only ones that Aaron Rodgers could break in 2023. He has a chance to also surpass Peyton Manning as the quickest player with the fewest games needed to throw 500 touchdown passes. The future Hall of Famer needs to throw 25 in the first 13 games to break Manning’s record.
