New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas did his best to upgrade the team’s roster ahead of the 2023 NFL Trade Deadline. The apple of his eye was a wide receiver, as he attempted to make another blockbuster acquisition.

Douglas reportedly made calls to the Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders, showing interest in Tee Higgins, Mike Evans and Davante Adams. None of the talks got beyond the exploratory stage, however, as none of the teams were interested in moving their pass catchers.

While the Jets struck out on acquiring a wide receiver ahead of the deadline, expect them to look for additions again in the offseason. Allen Lazard hasn’t come close to living up to expectations after signing a $44 million deal in free agency and Randall Cobb has been the least efficient wide receiver in the NFL.

Outside of Garrett Wilson, nothing is set in stone at the position for the Jets. During an appearance on The Manchild Show with Boy Green, Jets analyst Joe Caporoso made a bold claim about how the offseason will unfold. He believes the Jets are going to eventually land Adams.

“I think all roads end with Davante Adams being on the Jets in 2024. I just feel like that’s going to happen. It’s one of those things that you can’t convince me otherwise and I’m not just saying that as a homer Jets fan. I just think he’s miserable where he is right now [and] I think the Jets even more so than this year are going to view 2024 as the last Aaron Rodgers all in hurrah and they’re going to find a way to get him on their team.” (H/T Heavy)

Adams has not been shy about expressing his displeasure with how things have transpired in Las Vegas. He was unhappy with his role earlier in the season and the losing the team continues to do has not sat well with him or his star teammates.

It certainly would not be surprising to see Adams on the move this offseason, especially with the Raiders cleaning house and firing general manager Dave Zeigler and head coach Josh McDaniels. Landing with the Jets would be ideal for Adams, as he would get to reunite with Aaron Rodgers and compete for a Super Bowl, which is his ultimate goal.
