The New York Jets offense is ready to soar in 2023 with Aaron Rodgers taking over as the team’s starting quarterback. Replacing Zach Wilson, this unit should be much improved as the skill positions have received a facelift as well.
Reigning Rookie of the Year, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, leads a wide receiver group that now has a few familiar faces for Rodgers; Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb were both fixtures during his tenure with the Green Bay Packers. Wide receiver Mecole Hardman brings a dynamic element to the offense with his versatile skill set.
The one area that hasn’t been changed much at all is running back. The Jets must be confident that Breece Hall will be making a full return early in the season because the only addition they made was Israel Abanikanda out of Pittsburgh in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
It is peculiar that no other additions were made as Michael Carter and Zonovan Knight both left a lot to be desired down the stretch. Neither player averaged more than 3.5 yards per carry and if Hall is unable to get back on the field right out of the gate, the Jets running game would be looking lackluster again.
But, that could all quickly change with one free agent signing. Liam Henley of ClutchPoints believes it will, as he predicted the Jets to be where free agent running back Dalvin Cook ends up. Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings, who didn’t want to pay his $10.4 million price tag.
In New York, he would help balance out the offensive attack and take pressure off Rodgers in the passing game. He would be a major upgrade on Carter and Knight while providing the Jets with insurance to ease Hall back into the lineup, especially if he isn’t ready to go right off the bat.
With four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, Cook looks to still have something to offer teams. He has been connected most frequently to the Miami Dolphins, which is reason enough for the Jets to jump into the race for him.
The Jets should do everything they can to keep the Dolphins from upgrading their roster, even more, this offseason. Keeping Cook from landing there would be a smart decision as Miami has improved their roster this offseason and look like bonafide playoff contenders once again.
