The New York Jets made one huge move this offseason, acquiring quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. Quarterback was the team’s biggest need and they addressed it in a big way landing the future Hall of Famer.

Rodgers will help the team in the present as he is a major upgrade over what they have had at the quarterback position the last few seasons. But, there are some concerns about just how long he will be under center for the Jets as he was contemplating retirement earlier this offseason.

What they don’t have to worry about anymore is the future of Quinnen Williams. After some concerns that he would not be reporting to training camp without a new deal, that has been laid to rest.

Williams and the Jets agreed to a massive four-year, $96 million contract extension according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The contract includes $66 million in guarantees, which is the most money that the Jets have ever guaranteed a player in franchise history. It surpasses the $51 million that linebacker C.J. Mosley received in 2019 to leave the Baltimore Ravens for New York in free agency.

Under contract now through 2027, the Jets have to be ecstatic about locking in one of their bright young stars long-term. The defensive tackle market has boomed this offseason as Williams is the fifth player to receive a contract at the position that pays more than $20 million annually.

“The success of this organization is beyond important to me and completing this deal allows me to turn all my attention to positively impacting that,” Williams said in a statement Thursday. “I am thrilled to put forth my best efforts alongside my brothers to get prepared for this season ahead of us.”

The Alabama product is now the second-highest-paid defensive tackles in the NFL behind only Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams. This agreement brings an end to what was, at times, contentious negotiations between the two sides, as Williams skipped voluntary workouts and expressed frustration on social media about not having a new contract.
