Jets’ Zach Wilson Reluctant To Become Team’s Starter Again

The New York Jets suffered through yet another embarrassing performance offensively in Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons. In what was one of the ugliest games of the season, the Jets lost 13-8 at home, suffering their fifth straight defeat.

The team is contemplating making yet another quarterback change, as head coach Robert Saleh is considering all options. Tim Boyle was benched in the fourth quarter against Atlanta after making numerous mistakes. In relief of him, the team turned to Trevor Siemian, who wasn’t much better.

Both players are going to be considered to start in Week 14 against the Houston Texans. But, if the Jets had their way, it would be Zach Wilson stepping back into the starting lineup after being benched in Week 11 against the Buffalo Bills. He has since been relegated to the emergency/third-string spot on the depth chart, but the team is leading toward him to become QB1 again.

NFL News & Rumors: Aaron Rodgers, Emmanuel Acho, Zach Wilson, Robert Saleh, Tim Boyle, Trevor Siemian, New York Jets Updates

The only issue with that is Wilson doesn’t seem to want the job. According to Zack Rosenblatt, a senior writer for The Athletic who covers the Jets, Wilson is hesitant to step back into the starting role for the team. They are hoping that he changes his mind as they figure out what the next steps are for the franchise at quarterback.

What started as such a promising season with Aaron Rodgers under center has turned into a disastrous circus for the Jets. They have no good answers when it comes to finding a starting quarterback as none of the healthy players they have has shown an ability to competently lead the team.

It is certainly an awkward situation, as the Jets were reportedly done with Wilson when they removed him from the starting lineup ahead of their Week 12 game against the Miami Dolphins. Turning back to him now would certainly be an odd decision as their partnership looks to be one heading toward divorce.
