Chargers Urged To Make Major Trade For Intriguing Wide Receiver

The Los Angeles Chargers are in need of a wide receiver following Mike Williams’ season-ending ACL injury earlier this season.

Fortunately, the Chargers have some wiggle room between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline to make a move, but every week in this league counts, so time is of the essence.

Los Angeles may need to get moving and try to rectify its situation now, and Ben Cooper of ClutchPoints feels that the club should call up the New England Patriots and inquire about Kendrick Bourne.

Bourne has been the Patriots’ most productive wide out thus far this season, logging 18 catches for 218 yards and a couple of touchdowns through the first five games.

However, New England is just 1-4, so it may end up moving some pieces in the coming weeks. With Bourne’s contract expiring at the end of the season, he seems like a prime candidate to be dealt by the end of the month.

Even without Williams, the Chargers have a solid group of receivers that includes veteran Keenan Allen and 24-year-old Joshua Palmer. Still, there is no question that Williams’ absence leaves a rather significant hole in the Bolts’ aerial attack.

That’s where Bourne would come in.

Bourne may not be the towering 6-foot-4 presence that Williams is, but he is still a decent receiver who has shown he can be an integral part of a team’s passing game in the past.

During his first season with the Pats back in 2021, Bourne hauled in 55 receptions for 800 yards and five scores, and during his final year with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020, he caught 49 passes for 667 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

While those aren’t elite numbers, they are still reasonable, and if Bourne is able to post those types of statistics again, he would provide quarterback Justin Herbert with another dependable target.

The Chargers are 2-2 and had their bye week this past weekend. They will host the Dallas Cowboys next Monday.
