If you had been wondering if Cam Akers had played his last snap as a member of the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Sean McVay all but confirmed it this week.

When asked about Akers’ status on Wednesday, McVay said that even if the running back is not traded between now and the Oct. 31 NFL deadline, he won’t be getting any playing time.

“That won’t be an opportunity,” McVay said, via a transcript from the team. “It’ll be an opportunity to make a move. … I feel good about the opportunity to move him, but we won’t go back and forth on it.”

Wow. That’s some straight shooting from McVay.

Akers was a healthy scratch during the Rams’ Week 2 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. That came after Akers carried the ball 22 times for just 29 yards in the club’s Week 1 upset win over the Seattle Seahawks.

McVay added that the team had been “very clear” with Akers and his agent and that Los Angeles “felt good” about the dialogue between the two camps.

Akers, who played his collegiate football at Florida State, was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Jackson, Ms. native put forth a decent showing during his rookie campaign, totaling 625 yards and a couple of touchdowns while averaging 4.3 yards per carry.

A torn Achilles knocked Cam Akers out for all but one game in 2021, and the following year, he registered 786 yards and seven scores on the ground.

Clearly, the 24-year-old has not impressed Sean McVay and the Rams staff. Los Angeles appears content to roll with Kyren Williams in the backfield for the time being, although it is entirely possible the club picks up another halfback between now and the end of October.

The Rams are 1-1 and will take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.
