The Steelers finished 29th in the NFL in rushing last season. This had much to do with James Conner going down with an injury. Even when on the field, Conner did not see much production.
Conner played 10 games in 2019. He carried the ball 116 times for 464 yards and four touchdowns. This came after a breakout campaign in the absence of Le’Veon Bell. The jury is still out on Conner. There is a chance he can become an elite No. 1 back, but the Steelers should be searching for a more proven commodity for the upcoming season.
Pittsburgh will get Ben Roethlisberger back under center in 2020. That is promising given the fact that they should have been a playoff team last season. A late season loss to the New York Jets all but ended their season.
The Steelers need bounce-back seasons from both Conner and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Making a trade for Marlon Mack will solidify the running back position and give Conner a mate in the backfield.
