With the 2021 NFL trade deadline looming large next week, the Seattle Seahawks could be an intriguing team to keep an eye on. Due to the injury to Russell Wilson and the obvious need for help on the offensive side of the football, Pete Carroll and company could try to work out some deals. One intriguing potential target for the Seahawks could be Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon.

Let’s start by looking at Denver’s side of this potential idea. The Broncos are thrilled with what they have seen from rookie running back Javonte Williams and have given him a lot of touches. Moving on from Gordon would allow them to give the feature back role clearly to Williams.

That alone makes this an intriguing possibility for the Seahawks. If the Broncos are open to moving Gordon, they might be able to get him for a decent price.

Sporting News mentioned Gordon as a potential trade target for the Seahawks. Their reasoning for the idea certainly makes sense.

The Seahawks cannot keep running backs healthy and will be even more dependent on the rushing attack to stay alive in the NFC playoff race until Russell Wilson can return. Gordon would be a plug-and-play to help them in both power/red zone and receiving/third-down situaitons.

Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny have had a very difficult time staying on the field. The best ability in the NFL is availability and Gordon has been able to do that in Denver. Making a move to trade for him could be a great decision by the Seahawks.

So far this season with the Broncos, Melvin Gordon has carried the football 78 times for 350 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers average out to a solid 4.5 yards per carry average. Gordon has also caught 15 passes for 133 yards and another touchdown.

Gordon’s ability to not only make an impact on the ground, but also as a receiver out of the backfield, makes this an obvious option for the Seahawks. Even before Wilson returns from injury, Geno Smith could use a better check down option. Making the move for Gordon would supply Smith with that option.

All of that being said, if the Broncos make Gordon available for trade, there are quite a few teams around the NFL that would be interested. However, the Seahawks should absolutely make themselves one of those teams.
