Keep the Jets Defense Guessing
Fans were left wondering after the Monday night dismantling “Is the Jets defense this good, or are the Lions just that bad?” The truth is most likely somewhere in-between, but the Jets do have a lot of good pieces on that defense. Darron Lee looks like he’s coming into his own at the linebacker position, and safety Jamal Adams already looks like one of the best safeties in the league.
If the Miami Dolphins offense wants to avoid a fate similar to Stafford and the Lions, they’re going to need to keep the Jets on their toes. Miami did a magnificent job of that in week one against the Titans. It was a nice change-of-pace to see some variety from the Dolphins offense for a change.
Albert Wilson led the charge, lining up in the slot and outside on multiple occasions. He even made appearances in the backfield and as the quarterback — albeit on a snap that didn’t take place. When Wilson came to the team, I had hopes that it would mean a variety of different looks, and if week one is any indication, that’s precisely the plan. Additionally, the team was able to show the Titans a healthy mix of both running backs, Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore, using Gore in more than just obvious short yardage and goal-to-go situations.
That variety is going to be vital in attacking the Jets defense. After the Monday night game, some Jets defenders proudly proclaimed that their success came because they knew what was coming from Stafford and the offense. They won’t be so lucky this Sunday.
