Jonathan Taylor wants out of Indianapolis, and the Colts may be willing to give him what he desires.
With the NFL trade deadline looming on Oct. 31, Indianapolis has plenty of time to move its star running back, but apparently, the club may be willing to accept less than you would have initially thought.
According to Stephen Holder of ESPN, the Colts may actually take less than a first-round draft pick in exchange for Taylor.
“If Taylor is moved, here’s what matters: The Colts want real value from any potential trade. It’s why no deal got done in August,” writes Taylor. “They asked for a package of picks amounting to a first-round pick, but the reality is they’d settle for something a bit less. They seem determined to not just give him away and will play hardball, if necessary. Another complicating factor: A team that trades for Taylor will have to weigh whether to sign him to a new deal.”
Taylor is currently on the PUP list as he recovers from an ankle injury he suffered late last season. While he is eligible to return in Week 5, many feel he has played his last down in Indianapolis. The 24-year-old is embroiled in a contract dispute with the organization, and last month, he was given permission by the front office to seek a trade.
The fact that the Colts are apparently willing to accept a package that does not include a first-rounder should open the door for teams like the Miami Dolphins to re-enter the Taylor sweepstakes.
Miami engaged Indy in discussion for the 2021 Pro Bowler in the lead-up to the start of the season, but talks didn’t go very far. The Dolphins were reportedly willing to give Jonathan Taylor a contract extension that would have made him the NFL’s highest-paid halfback.
