The Miami Dolphins engaged the Indianapolis Colts in trade talks for star running back Jonathan Taylor last month, but discussions did not get very far.
With Taylor set to come off the PUP list in two weeks, rumors have reignited about the Dolphins potentially trying to swing a deal for Taylor, but because the Colts are reportedly maintaining a high asking price, it’s looking less and less likely that the halfback will be dealt.
Miami running back Raheem Mostert spoke about the trade chatter this week, saying that he mainly choose to ignore it.
“There’s always going to be talk, but, you know, I just don’t listen to it nor does anybody else,” Mostert said, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “We all just try to go out here and do our thing.”
And the Dolphins are certainly doing just that.
Miami is 3-0 and is coming off of a massive 70-20 win over the Denver Broncos this past Sunday, making all of the Taylor talk seem pretty moot.
Mostert carried the ball 13 times for 82 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Meanwhile, fellow halfback De’Von Achane racked up 203 yards and a couple of scores off of 18 rushing attempts.
Because of how explosive the Dolphins’ offense has been in the early stages of 2023, they don’t seem to have a huge need for Taylor, and it they probably would not be so amenable to giving up a massive return in exchange for the 24-year-old.
After all, Miami currently ranks No. 1 in the league in rushing offense, boasting 188.3 rushing yards per game. Obviously, those numbers are a bit skewed from the win over the Broncos, but it still allows the Dolphins to take some solace in the fact that their ground game is just fine, with or without Jonathan Taylor.
Miami will take on the Buffalo Bills in an AFC East showdown on Sunday.
