New Odds Show Chance The Bears Will Trade For DK Metcalf

The Chicago Bears have new leadership in place as Ryan Poles took over the general manager job from Ryan Pace. Matt Nagy was also relieved of his duties as head coach and replaced by Matt Eberflus.

Those two will now work together on improving a Bears roster that has quite a few holes on it. This offseason, they had two goals; start clearing some cap space and building the roster up around Justin Fields to help him succeed.

Fields was selected No. 12 overall by the Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft after they traded up with the New York Giants. His rookie season had plenty of bumps in the road, but the scheme run by Nagy and the lack of weapons were a big reason for that.

In the game, Nagy wasn’t on the sidelines, Fields had his highest completion percentage of the season in a single game at 70.4 and also ran for over 100 yards for the first time in his career. Putting together a game plan that plays into his strengths is imperative if the Bears want him to succeed.

Adding some more pass catchers around him would also help. Chicago lost Allen Robinson in free agency, leaving Darnell Mooney as the only pass catcher Fields could rely on. In free agency, they came up short in landing any of the top pass catchers, signing Equanimeous St. Brown and Byron Pringle.

While those are two solid depth pieces, the Bears shouldn’t hesitate to add more talent to the position should the opportunity arise. One player that they should aggressively pursue should he be made available is D.K. Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks.

After trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, the Seahawks could be open for business when it comes to their star wide receiver. What are the odds that the Bears can pull off a deal for him? Evidently, bookmakers don’t believe the chances are high.

Over at Bookies.com, the Bears were given +900 odds of Metcalf being on their roster in Week 1. The Seahawks are the odds on favorites at -125, with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs all holding better odds than the Bears.

Metcalf would be an excellent addition to a Bears offense lacking a true No. 1 receiver. There isn’t a player in the league right now with Metcalf’s mix of size, athleticism and physicality as he will look to cash in next offseason just as Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill did this offseason.
