The DeAndre Hopkins free agency sweepstakes don’t sound like they will be coming to an end any time soon. A recent update has thrown some cold water on any progress that has seemingly been made as things could draft on for a while longer.
According to Mike Pelissero of NFL Network, both the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots remain interested; they are the only two franchises that have hosted DeAndre Hopkins for visits. But, he added that no signing is imminent.
Could this be a tactic on the part of DeAndre Hopkins, hoping that his market will expand beyond those two teams? If as big of a role as possible is what he is seeking, both the Titans and Patriots make sense as he could slide into the No. 1 spot on their depth charts.
But, it is fair to wonder just how excited DeAndre Hopkins would really be to suit up for either team. Before he was released by the Arizona Cardinals back in late May, he was on a podcast and revealed the five quarterbacks that he would like to become teammates with; Ryan Tannehill and Mac Jones, the starters right now Tennessee and New England, were not on that list.
The former All-Pro also took to social media recently to quiet down any rumors about him potentially considering retirement. He gave a very specific answer about when that day will come when he will walk away from the NFL.
“I’ll retire from football when I’m not a 1k-yard receiver,” Hopkins said on threads. “With that said, I was on pace for 1,400 yards last year—one significant injury in 11 years. I might be playing till I’m 37 the way I feel.”
DeAndre Hopkins hasn’t recorded a 1,000-yard season since 2020 as he has missed 15 games the last two seasons because of suspensions and injuries. In the 19 games that he did appear in, it was clear that he had plenty left in the tank to offer as he remained a force to be reckoned with.
