New York Giants tight end Darren Waller will not play in his team’s Week 9 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders due to a hamstring injury, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Waller initially suffered the injury during the first half of the Giants’ loss to the New York Jets this past weekend and did not return to the game.

It’s an absolutely brutal loss for a Giants offense that has been horrendous even with Waller on the field this season.

Through his first eight games of the year, Waller has been, by far, New York’s most prominent weapon in its pitiful aerial attack, logging 36 catches for 384 yards and a touchdown.

The Giants landed Waller in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders back in March, sending a third-round draft pick to the Raiders in exchange for him.

Waller, who played his collegiate football at Georgia Tech, was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Due to multiple suspensions, Waller never really got much of an opportunity to showcase his talent with the Ravens, registering a grand total of 12 catches with the club.

He went on to sign with the Raiders in 2018, and the following year, Waller broke out, hauling in 90 receptions for 1,145 yards and three touchdowns. He was even better in 2020, snaring 107 balls for 1,196 yards and nine scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Due to injuries, Waller’s production tailed off over his final couple of years with the Raiders, and last season, he managed to catch just 28 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns in nine games.

The 31-year-old was on pace for a solid campaign with Big Blue, but he could be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

New York is 2-6 on the season.
