New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley suffered a sprained ankle during his team’s Week 2 win over the Arizona Cardinals and was sidelined in the Week 3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers as a result.
On Tuesday, Giants head coach Brian Daboll revealed that Barkley is day-to-day for the team’s Week 4 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL.com.
Luckily for New York, it plays the Seahawks on Monday night, so Barkley will get an extra day to rest and recover.
Barkley was injured in the fourth quarter of New York’s Week 2 victory. He later revealed that it was a high-ankle sprain, which typically takes longer to heal.
In the time he has played this season, Barkley has rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown while averaging 3.9 yards per carry. He has also logged nine catches for 41 yards and a score.
The 26-year-old is certainly no stranger to injuries.
Barkley last played a full season during his rookie campaign back in 2018. He missed three games in his second season, tore his ACL two games into the 2020 campaign and then missed a combined five contests between 2021 and 2022.
When healthy, there is no debating that Barkley is one of the league’s best halfbacks. He earned Pro Bowl appearances in 2018 and last year, which just so happened to be the Penn State product’s two healthiest campaigns thus far.
Last season, Saquon Barkley played in 16 of the 17 games and racked up 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns while registering 4.4 yards per attempt. He also caught 57 passes for 338 yards. He then proceeded to amass 114 rushing yards and a couple of scores in the Giants’ two playoff games, adding seven receptions for 77 yards.
New York is coming off of an ugly 30-12 loss to the 49ers last Thursday. The club is 1-2 on the season.
