Aaron Rodgers has been presumed to be done for this entire NFL season after he tore his Achilles on the New York Jets’ opening offensive series of the season. Without him, the team has been strangely competitive at times, but an embarrassing 27-6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on “Monday Night Football” dropped their record to 4-4 on the season.
While their defense has largely held up, their offense has been horrific, and it is clear they need a major upgrade over Zach Wilson, their replacement quarterback.
They may be getting exactly that later this season from the most unexpected of sources.
There have been whispers that Rodgers may attempt a comeback before the end of the regular season, and he seemed to confirm it when Chargers safety Derwin James asked him when he would return, to which he replied, “Give me a few weeks.”
NFL NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets Updates
But Rodgers walked that back a bit when he said on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he was being “tongue in cheek” and that returning in a couple of weeks would probably be unrealistic.
Normally, when an athlete tears his Achilles tendon, he will need to spend, at the very least, several months rehabbing the injury before he’s able to fully return to game action. However, the technology behind the surgery and rehab for such an injury has improved.
Rodgers has apparently thrown himself into the rehab process and embraced the journey. Upon being traded to the Jets during the offseason, he seemed reinvigorated, especially after his long tenure with the Green Bay Packers didn’t end on the best of terms.
If he is to actually return later this season and avoid any physical repercussions while playing decently, it would be a great story, regardless of whether it would translate to wins or a playoff spot for New York.
