Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets both know what’s at stake in the 2024 NFL season. After going all-in on the trade for Rodgers last offseason, the Jets decided to go for it all right now. Obviously, things did not go as planned during the 2023 campaign.
On their first offensive possession, Rodgers blew out his Achilles.
Now, they are headed into the offseason after another disappointing year. Robert Saleh’s job security is questionable and another dismal season could lead to more major changes for the Jets.
With that in mind, the Jets are likely to be aggressive in free agency and the trade market.
Pro Football Focus is suggesting that New York could go out and snag a superstar free agent for Rodgers to work with. They have the Jets listed as a top landing spot for star wide receiver Mike Evans.
“The New York Jets need more receiving talent opposite Garrett Wilson, and this move is effectively the inverse of the above: Evans takes a bit less but joins Aaron Rodgers as he tries to replicate the Tom Brady run in Tampa.”
Evans is likely looking to compete for a Super Bowl if he leaves the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has had an amazing career with the Bucs, but a change of scenery could be ideal for him.
While he is 30 years old, Evans is still producing at a superstar level and is very much in the prime of his career. During the 2023 season, he racked up 79 receptions for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns. Those numbers show why the Jets should pursue him.
An offense of Rodgers, Garrett Wilson, and Evans would be tough to stop. Add in Breece Hall and things get even more entertaining. This would be a dream scenario for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.
Granted, there are quite a few teams with needs at wide receiver that could pursue Evans. He may also opt to stay in Tampa Bay. However, if he leaves his current situation, the Jets could make a competitive offer.
