The New York Jets will be down two players in their secondary for Week 5, as cornerbacks DJ Reed and Brandin Echols will both miss the team’s Sunday afternoon matchup with the Denver Broncos, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Reed is out with a concussion. Meanwhile, Echols is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Reed is now in his second season with the Jets after signing with the club in March 2022. Through four games this year, he has logged 28 tackles. He played all 17 contests last season, finishing with 80 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and 12 passes defended.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Kansas State, was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He spent two seasons with the 49ers in a limited role before joining the Seattle Seahawks in 2020. Reed was much more productive in Seattle, with his best season coming in 2021 when he racked up 78 tackles, a couple of picks, a fumble recovery and 10 passes defended in 14 games.

Meanwhile, Echols was taken by the Jets in the sixth round of the NFL Draft in 2021.

He made 14 starts during his rookie campaign, totaling 63 tackles, a pair of interceptions, nine passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

The following year, Echols was demoted from his starting job due to the acquisition of Reed. He appeared in 13 contests in 2022 but his impact was scarce, as he registered just eight tackles and two passes defended. He has recorded two tackles in thee appearances this season.

New York is looking to put an end to a three-game losing streak. The Jets are actually coming off of a decent Week 4 showing against the Kansas City Chiefs, but they ultimately fell by a score of 23-20.
