Todd Gurley, Atlanta Falcons
It wasn’t too long ago that we were talking about Todd Gurley as the best running back in the league, and an MVP candidate. Of course, it isn’t completely his fault.
A pile of injuries which began in the 2019 playoffs, which practically ruined their Super Bowl hopes, and any sort of plans for success moving forward.
After a fairly average season last year, the Rams released Gurley, and doing so, released their intentions of not wanting to re-sign him. This gave Gurley the opportunity to recreate his strong reputation in the place where he played football in college, the Atlanta Falcons.
Gurley failed to rush for 1,000 yards last year for just the second time in his career, and after being recognized as a strong catching running back, he posted a catching percentage under 64%.
The drop off was hard, and fast. The news about his arthritic knee sent shivers to the Rams’ front office, and made him a well less desirable commodity.
Atlanta has decided to take a risk on Gurley, however, with the contract only extending to the conclusion of the upcoming season, the real pressure is on Gurley.
At the age of 25, Gurley still has an amazing opportunity to recreate his image. Playing in an offense which showcases one of the best receiving duo’s, and an MVP quarterback, Gurley could be the running back in a lot of important moments.
If he sqaunders away this opportunity, who knows how many others he is going to get. He was still productive last year, it wasn’t like he was unplayable, but for a starting caliber back, Gurley will have to show signs of improvement.
This year is a big one for Gurley and his career, and he is on a good team to do it.
