NFL: 5 running backs under the most pressure in 2020

Leonard Fournette, Jacksonville Jaguars

After his rookie season, it seemed as if the Jacksonville Jaguars had made a solid decision drafting Leonard Fournette ahead of Christian McCaffrey. Knowing what we know now, that decision may not have been their brightest.

McCaffrey seems like the surefire best running back in the NFL, and Fournette has only dropped off in his following two seasons. Only rushing for eight touchdowns in the past two seasons combined, Fournette has lost his fortunate reputation.

Following their strong 2018 showing, the Jaguars have slowly traded away every piece of that roster, and it’s rumoured that Fournette may be next.

The Jaguars may be the next team to follow the trend of signing a cheaper running back, rather than extending their own. Although, Fournette will have to play up to a seriously high level in order to repair his poor reputation as a disappointment of a number four pick.

This is his year to do it. Whether it’s in a Jacksonville uniform, or another, Fournette will have a “prove it” type of year if he is wanting to earn that contract this off season.

He has the raw talent, and is still a strong back with speed. He’ll be playing with one of the weakest rosters he’s ever played on, if he stays in Jacksonville, giving him lots of opportunity to stand out, and earn some money.

If he doesn’t though, it could become very interesting to see where his value lays with other organizations.
