NFL: 5 running backs under the most pressure in 2020

Le’Veon Bell, New York Jets

Le’Veon Bell was one of the few running backs who worked the holdout game plan to perfection. Despite missing the entirety of the 2018 season, Bell still received a four year, $52.5 million contract from the New York Jets.

It wasn’t all fun and games though, as last season Bell posted the worst numbers of his career. He only rushed for 789 yards, and three touchdowns, and did not look like the Bell of old.

It didn’t take long for the rumours to being flying around of head coach, Adam Gase expressing his desire to move on from Bell after only a single season. It seems like the 28 year old running back will remain a New York Jet for the upcoming season, but his future is still up in the air.

$8 million plus, a season is difficult to justify a release, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen if the Jets fail to find a trade partner for Bell. That could be the reality for him if he can’t perform up to his contract for a second season in a row.

However, he still has the opportunity this year to make something happen. Bell was commonly accepted as one of the best running back’s in the league as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he still had some left in the tank.,

The pressure is on now for Bell like never before. This could be a make-or-break season for him. The good thing is, that he got his money, what’s on the line, his job, and the opportunity to be a high level running back.
