NFL Analyst Believes Baker Mayfield Makes ‘Too Much Sense’ For Seahawks

The quarterback carousel in the NFL this offseason was fully operational. There were some big names on the move and there are still some players that are waiting to be traded to a new team as well. The biggest trade on the quarterback market came when the Seattle Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.

There had been some rumors last season that Wilson might request a trade, but all of the offers for him were rebuffed. The team struggled in 2021 as Wilson battled an injury, but things seemed to be heading in the right direction.

Evidently, they were not as good as they seemed. The Seahawks parted with their franchise quarterback and now need to figure out what they are going to do at the position. They received Drew Lock in the return trade package for Wilson, but based on his performance this far in his NFL career, doesn’t instill much confidence that he can be the starter going forward.

Instead, there are a lot of people that believe the Seahawks will get on the carousel again. This time they will land on Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns. The Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans in a trade and signed Jacoby Brissett, so it is a matter of when, not if, they are going to move Mayfield.

On a recent episode of his podcast, Cris Collinsworth said that he believes it makes too much sense for Mayfield to not end up in Seattle.

For a team that doesn’t look like it wants to rebuild, acquiring Mayfield would be a smart move. He would provide a lot more stability to the offense than Lock would, as Mayfield has already experienced some success in the NFL.

While it can be argued that he hasn’t lived up to expectations of a first overall pick, Mayfield is a solid starting quarterback. He helped turn the downtrodden Browns around and Seattle has pieces in place that would help him succeed. Any quarterback would love having D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett to throw the ball to, while Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny handle the running game.

Needing an immediate upgrade and long-term answer at the position, Mayfield is a sensible target for Seattle. This is a team closer to being a playoff contender again than people think, as they are only one season removed from winning 12 games.
