Philadelphia Eagles running back D’Andre Swift put forth a phenomenal performance last Thursday, carrying the ball 28 times for 175 yards and a touchdown in a 34-28 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
However, in spite of Swift’s breakout game, Theo Ash of the Stay Hot Pod is not entirely sold on the University of Georgia product.
In a series of three clips (check out the thread on Ash’s X profile), Ash breaks down three separate instances where Swift displayed poor field vision.
While you may find it in bad form to heavily critique Swift after such an incredible outing, his lack of vision does make you wonder if his Thursday night outburst is replicable.
The Eagles acquired Swift in a trade with the Detroit Lions this past spring. He began the season as Philadelphia’s No. 2 back behind Kenneth Gainwell, but Gainwell suffered a rib injury in the club’s Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots. That thrust Swift into the featured role in Week 2, and he delivered.
Swift was originally selected by the Lions in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed a solid rookie campaign, rushing for 521 yards and eight touchdowns while also catching 46 passes for 357 yards and a couple of scores. The following year, D’Andre Swift posted 617 yards and five touchdowns on the ground and added 62 receptions for 452 yards and a pair of scores. He then totaled 542 yards and five touchdowns on the ground in 2022, logging 48 grabs for 389 yards and three scores.
The 24-year-old clearly has potential as an all-purpose back, but whether or not he can remain consistent in Philly’s offense remains to be seen.
The Eagles will look to improve to 3-0 when they head on the road to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this coming Sunday.
