Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, to the surprise of many in the sports world, will retain his position.
Despite their recent NFC Wild Card loss to the Green Bay Packers, an unexpected turn of events for a team with a flawless home record and NFC East division title, both Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones have publicly voiced their support for McCarthy.
In a surprising twist, McCarthy has found another advocate from beyond the Cowboys organization after news of his continued tenure was revealed on Wednesday.
Fox analyst and former NFL tight end Greg Olsen spoke out and revealed a bold message about Mike McCarthy staying with the Cowboys.
“I guess I wasn’t so crazy Sunday huh? Every weekly talking head said he was gone. Emotional decisions make people feel better. They hardly result in positive outcomes.”
Despite some playoff setbacks, McCarthy has established himself as one of the NFL’s top coaches since taking the reins of the Cowboys in 2020. The team has consistently made playoff appearances, with the exception of his inaugural season, largely attributed to Dak Prescott’s season-ending ankle injury.
McCarthy boasts two NFC East division titles and a winning percentage of over 60% in regular season games during his tenure.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ decision-makers have granted McCarthy another year to address any issues. However, should he fail to do so, his coaching position may become precarious once again.
