The Philadelphia Eagles picked up a massive win in Week 11, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 21-17 in a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl.
The Eagles are now 9-1 and own the best record in the NFL, and former Philadelphia running back LeSean McCoy said he thinks the Birds are the No. 1 team in football right now.
While McCoy notes that the Chiefs certainly blew some chances in the game, he also says that the Eagles did not play particularly well either but managed to finish the contest strong.
McCoy adds that beating Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium—especially on a nationally televised Monday night matchup—is no easy feat, and he also mentions that Philly defeated the Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys, two teams that some had crowned the best in the NFL at earlier points of the season.
The former halfback’s overall point is that the Eagles have topped several teams that were pegged as elite clubs this season, so how could they not be the best squad in the league?
Things aren’t about to get any easier for Philadelphia, either.
The Eagles will host the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers each of the next two weeks before heading on the road to battle the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 10. They will then go out west to take on a tough Seattle Seahawks team the following week before ending their season with what should be three easy games against the New York Giants (twice) and Arizona Cardinals (although the Cardinals are now more daunting with Kyler Murray back under center).
Is Philly the best team in football? We will obviously not know for sure until the playoffs roll around, but as of right now, it’s hard to argue with McCoy’s opinion.
At the very least, the Eagles are clearly one of the top couple of teams in the NFL and are unquestionably favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl for the second straight year.
Philadelphia has made the playoffs five of the last six seasons.
