NFL Analyst Suggests Seahawks Should Trade For Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers have a lot to figure out this off-season after a 2022 season that has turned into a mess. They are going to fall woefully short of the Super Bowl aspirations they had as even making the playoffs would require a miracle. While there are numerous things that will need to be addressed, No. 1 on that list is the quarterback position. Jordan Love will be a name to keep an eye on this offseason and a team like the Seattle Seahawks could look to poach him.

Green Bay has to figure out what is going on with Aaron Rodgers as it will determine how the rest of their offseason goes. If he opts to retire, the Packers have a ton of money opened up and can insert Jordan Love as their starter after selecting him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

If Rodgers commits to coming back, the situation with Love becomes an interesting one. Will the Packers want to hold onto him for a fourth season, knowing they can also exercise a fifth-year option? That likely isn’t the best use of resources as a trade of Love would make a lot of sense.

There are plenty of teams that are going to be in the market for a quarterback this off-season. While Love doesn’t have a lot of tape to go off of, he is going to be in Year 4 of his rookie contract and only 25, giving a team at least one if not two seasons to see what he can do as a starter.

Love was a topic of discussion recently on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports Radio. He suggested that the Packers should trade him so that they can get some draft capital, which means cheap potentially productive players to add to the roster. The team he suggested as the landing spot for him is the Seattle Seahawks, who have a surplus of draft picks.

Seattle is an interesting landing spot as they are one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season. Many people thought they would be among the bottom feeders in the league after trading away Russell Wilson, but the Seahawks are fighting for a playoff spot as they are 7-5 under Geno Smith.

Smith has earned himself a huge contract with his performance this season. If the Seahawks are hesitant to pay that, or another team offers him a contract that they deem too rich for their blood, Love would make for an interesting option. They have more than enough draft picks to swing a deal courtesy of the Wilson deal.

However, it is hard to fathom the Seahawks wanting to move on from Smith. He has had a career renaissance and if he leads them to the postseason, it would be a hard sell moving on from him. Using all of that draft capital to address needs on the roster or acquire an impact veteran at another position seems like a likelier outcome during the 2023 off-season than making a trade for Love.
