NFL Exec Reveals Potential Surprise Destination For Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield, Rams, Titans

Baker Mayfield is going to be a player that a lot of people keep an eye on during the upcoming NFL offseason. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft has had some flashes of brilliance in his career but has just as many low points as well.

In 2022 he went from the face of the franchise with the Cleveland Browns to being relegated to the bench when the team acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. Baker Mayfield was eventually traded to the Carolina Panthers, where he was benched twice and eventually released.

He finished the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Rams, where he made the most of his opportunity at the start. Despite being with the team for two days, Mayfield engineered an incredible comeback on Thursday Night Football in Week 14 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The following week, he played a so-so game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field before lighting up the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day. Alas, that was the last time he threw a touchdown this season, as Baker Mayfield’s performance dropped off in the final two weeks against the Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks.

It is clear that there is talent there with Mayfield, he just needs the right coaching staff and environment to bring it out of him. Remaining with the Rams as Matthew Stafford’s backup has been something suggested for him to do. But, one NFL executive that spoke to NFL Analysis Network believes Mayfield could move on in free agency.

“To be honest, I think he could end up back with the Rams, but I’m not sold on that. A team to keep a very close eye on would be the Tennessee Titans. They could be looking for a new quarterback, and I think (Baker) Mayfield could be a fit there.”

The Tennessee Titans are a team many believe will make a change at the quarterback position this offseason. After finishing the season on a seven-game losing streak and blowing their lead in the AFC South, they have already made some big changes to their coaching staff, firing four people.

Quarterback could be the next change as Ryan Tannehill may be on the move via trade. Malik Willis didn’t look like an NFL quarterback in his appearances as a rookie and the team would almost certainly bring in a veteran to compete for the starting job.

With a strong run game led by Derrick Henry and some weapons in the passing game in Treylon Burks Robert Woods and tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo, Mayfield could find success in Tennessee.
