The Chicago Bears will be one of the top teams to watch heading into the offseason for a variety of reasons, and a former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network that he thinks the Bears will make huge waves.
“The Bears are going to take Caleb Williams, that’s a forgone conclusion,” the former exec said. “But, I think they double down on offensive splashes this offseason. I think they’re going to pursue Davante Adams aggressively.”
Chicago owns the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft courtesy of its trade with the Carolina Panthers last spring. It is widely expected to take Williams, who is considered the top prospect in this draft class.
Of course, the Bears can always move forward with Justin Fields at quarterback and trade the pick, but it’s looking like Chicago will just end up rolling with Williams.
The Adams prediction, however, is unexpected.
Adams is entering his third season with the Las Vegas Raiders, and while he expressed some frustration earlier in the 2023 campaign, he seemed to settle in once the Raiders moved from Josh McDaniels to Antonio Pierce at head coach.
As a result, it’s hard to imagine Adams asking for a trade this offseason, and Las Vegas will almost certainly not be trading him unless some team absolutely blows the club away with an offer.
Still, that does not mean the Bears can’t pursue the star wide receiver.
Chicago has very limited depth behind D.J. Moore in its receiving corps, and if it does take Williams with the top selection, it would be nice for him to have a variety of weapons at his disposal.
A duo of Moore and Adams would be thoroughly lethal, and when you also throw in tight end Cole Kmet, Williams would have a terrific group of pass-catchers to throw to during his rookie campaign.
It probably won’t happen, but the idea of Adams in the Windy City is certainly fun to think about.
